Black Screen With A Blinking Cursor

Description:

Windows will not boot up, it will just be a black screen with a blinking cursor after POST.

To Resolve:

  1. Check to make sure you have nothing plugged in to the computer except those that are needed (monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc.)

  2. Check the CD Tray or if an external HDD is plugged in, this screen is common if the computer is trying to boot to those.

  3. Try safe mode (F8 on boot).

  4. If none of the above works, you will probably have to re-image your machine. Run Diagnostics if you can (usually F12 on boot).
